UWC Maastricht welcomes new Chair of the Board

January 17, 2022

UWC Maastricht is excited to announce the appointment of Angelique Paulussen as the new Chair of the school Board, starting 1 January 2022. In this role, Angelique will provide leadership at the level of school governance and provide guidance and support to the Head of College.

Angelique is already well-known in the UWC Maastricht community. She was an active parent during the years 2011-2019, when her daughter Anne-Sophie attended our school, including as a parent member and Chair of the Participation Council. Angelique joined the school Board in February 2020, with a particular responsibility for the branding, fundraising and communications portfolio. As the Board Chair she now follows in the footsteps of Hein Schreuder, who chaired the Board from January 2017 until December 2021.

“I am very grateful for all the work done by my predecessor, Professor Hein Schreuder, who has been the Chair of the Board for the last five years,” Angelique comments. “Hein has provided leadership and strategic guidance over the years and helped the school to become a stable and sound institution with a good standing amid the eighteen UWC schools and colleges. Thank you Hein, for the many dedicated hours, for your leadership and for being a great Chair!”

Angelique is a senior executive with vast professional experience in the life sciences, tech and consumer industries. She has lived in Southern Limburg since 1992 and became professionally active in the region when she became Senior Vice President Communications & External Affairs at DSM in Heerlen in 2007. Angelique retired from this position in 2019, and now holds a number of non-executive and supervisory positions in the corporate world, in addition to her role as Chair of UWC Maastricht.

“I really believe education is a powerful tool to change the world in the long term,” says Angelique. “It is UWC’s mission to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures. I am pleased that I can be part of this movement, as Chair of the Board of UWC Maastricht. Together with my fellow Board members, the Head of College and the school management, I look forward to building on the already solid foundation to develop more global citizens, who will all have impact on the world in their own particular way.”
