Primary School Curriculum

Child in classroom Primary School

UWC Maastricht is a Candidate School* for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme! We are pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that we believe is important for our students.

The PYP offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. It is a student-centered approach to education for children aged 4-11. It reflects the best of educational research, thought leadership and experience derived from IB World Schools.

By learning through inquiry and reflecting on their own learning, PYP students develop knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and the attributes of the IB Learner profile to make a difference in their own lives, their communities and beyond.

Specialist lessons

Specialist classes consist of English Language Acquisition, Dutch Language Acquisition, Dutch Language and Literature, Physical & Health Education (PHE), Outdoor Learning and Music. These classes are taught by specialist teachers and where appropriate take place in specially equipped learning environments. These lessons are timetabled throughout the week. Specialist teachers work collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure that the learning is transdisciplainary and meaningful to the students they serve.

The UWC Maastricht PYP curriculum is available soon!

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
