The PYP is designed for children aged 4 to 11 and offers a student-centered, inquiry-based and transdisciplinary approach to learning. It encourages students to make connections across subjects, engage with real-world issues and develop conceptual understanding through exploration, collaboration and reflection. At the heart of the programme are the attributes of the IB Learner Profile, which help students grow into thoughtful, principled and compassionate individuals.
Grounded in UWC’s values of intercultural understanding, personal responsibility and sustainability, our Primary School creates a vibrant learning community where students feel safe, valued and inspired. We believe that when children are curious and engaged, they not only thrive academically but also develop the skills and mindset to make a positive difference, in their own lives, their communities and the world.
Our students enjoy a range of specialist lessons in English Language Acquisition, Dutch Language Acquisition, Dutch Language and Literature, Physical & Health Education (PHE), Outdoor Learning and Music. These subjects are taught by specialist teachers in purpose-built learning environments, ensuring that each lesson is enriching and impactful. Specialist teachers collaborate closely with classroom educators to ensure that the learning experience is both transdisciplinary and deeply meaningful for each student.
