Looking for guest families this summer

April 13, 2026

Every summer at UWC Maastricht, most of our students return home to their families, their countries, their familiar routines.

But for some, going back isn’t possible. Sometimes it’s because of distance but often it’s due to financial reasons, family circumstances or situations of conflict or instability. In these cases, staying in the Netherlands becomes the only option.

That’s why we are looking for guest families or housing for students who will stay in the Netherlands during the summer break (11 July to 29 August). Opening your home, even for a short time, can make a real difference.

What’s in it for you?

Many families say they gain just as much from the experience as the students do. Hosting can be enriching in simple but meaningful ways:

  • New perspectives and conversations around the dinner table
  • A unique insight into another culture and way of life
  • The chance to build genuine, often lasting connections
  • For some, even practical help with looking after their home, plants or pets

Some practical details:

  • Hosting can be from 1 week or more anytime between 11 July and 29 August
  • Students are 16–19 years old from all over the world
  • You can host one or more students
  • You can be at home or not. Some students are also happy to look after your home or pets while you’re away
  • There’s no need to change your routine but many families find it naturally becomes a meaningful cultural exchange
  • All host families are screened in line with safeguarding procedures (for example through a VOG), ensuring a safe environment for everyone

Whether you’re part of the UWC community or simply open to the experience, this is a small gesture that can have a lasting impact.
