Sielke Smeets


Sielke started studying School Music and Special Music Education at the Maastricht Academy of Music in 1999. She was taught piano (light music) as a secondary subject by Ton Vennix. In 2003 she completed both studies successfully and was admitted to the Classical Piano programme in Maastricht. She studied under Alejandro Serena Llinares and Tonie Ehlen.

Sielke graduated as a Bachelor of Music in 2007, both as a teaching and performing musician, and was accepted for the Master's programme for performing pianists. She obtained her Master's degree in 2009. She attended masterclasses piano by Richard Goode, Håkon Austbø and Claire Chevallier and a masterclass in song accompaniment by Rudolf Jansen.

In the summer of 2008, 2009 and 2011, she attended the Birmingham International Piano Academy (BIPA), where she studied with Malcolm Wilson, John Humphreys, Robert Markham, Katherine Lam and Margaret Fingerhut. She was also selected to do masterclasses with John Lill, Oxana Yablonskaya, Philip Martin and Peter Donohoe.

She is currently working as a remedial music teacher at the Adelante Mytylschool for physically disabled children, as a piano teacher at Conservatorium Maastricht and UWCM Music School, as well as a performing pianist.
