Division Council

The UWC Maastricht has a division council to represent the interests of staff, parents and students of the school. The council has seventeen members, four staff members from the primary school and secondary school, respectively, as well as four parents from the primary school, two parents from the secondary school, and two students from the secondary school.

The Division Council

The Division Council (DC) is a group of democratically elected representatives of staff, students and parents who work with school leadership on matters concerning the management of the school.

By law, every school in the Netherlands has a Participation Council or Medezeggenschrapsraad (MR). At United World College Maastricht it is called Division Council because it represents the different ‘divisions’ of the school: primary and secondary.

The DC has the right of consent, the right of advice and the right of information on topics which are specified in Participation Act for Schools or Wet Medezeggenschap op Scholen (WMS). Topics which are discussed on a regular basis are school finances, school plan, safety regulations, care plan and other policies.

The DC meets on a monthly basis 17.30 to 19.30 and the meetings are open to the public (unless confidential matters are being discussed). If you have any questions or concerns regarding school policies please contact the DC representatives personally or send us an email at:
