As long-standing champions of the UWC movement, they have helped open the door to education for young people from around the world. At UWC Maastricht alone, their support has enabled 101 students to study and live in our community since 2018.

Each scholarship first and foremost creates an opportunity for a young person. But its impact does not stop there. When students with different backgrounds and experiences live and learn together, everyone is encouraged to listen, question assumptions and see the world through new perspectives. This shared learning lies at the heart of our mission to make education a force for peace and a sustainable future.

Shelby and Gale’s support also continues beyond UWC. Through the Davis UWC Scholars Program, they help graduates pursue their education in the United States. Today, more than 4600 Davis UWC Scholars are studying at US universities and another 15.000 have already graduated!

The figures are impressive, but this visit made the impact behind them feel much more tangible. Shelby and Gale joined an assembly where students delivered speeches and shared their perspectives before meeting some of our younger learners. It was a chance to see their support reflected not only in numbers but also in the young people and everyday encounters that make up our community.

Thank you, Shelby and Gale, for visiting us and for your longstanding support. And thank you to Jacob Mnookin from the Davis UWC Scholars Program and Faith Abiodun, Executive Director of UWC International, for joining them. Your commitment continues to open doors and strengthen the UWC experience for us all!
